Britpunk-inspired styled shoot at The Mount in Lenox, MA

The inspiration for this styled photoshoot was all about juxtaposition: what would it look like if a pair of rough-around-the-edges, urbanite musician lovebirds got hitched in the bucolic, beautiful Berkshires? The Mount in Lenox, Massachusetts – aka the Edith Wharton estate – was the perfect fit: not only are the house and grounds stunningly beautiful (even in February, when our shoot took place), but the theme of contrast is evident throughout Wharton’s writing, as well as her own life. She was the beneficiary of an upper class upbringing AND one of its most vocal critics, so we felt inspired to incorporate hints of an underground movement that sought to challenge the social elite (chiefly, the punk rock movement of 1970’s London) – and we like to think she’d approve!

We selected bold black and white prints (stripes & houndstooth), metallic jewelry and accents, and lots of layers – as well as plenty of musical aesthetic touches. Our florist incorporated antlers into the floral arrangements, and studded leather made its oh-so-necessary appearance for napkin rings, the groom’s boutonniere, and the bride’s gloves. And since this particular bride would undoubtedly change outfits at some point in the festivities, we made sure to feature two chic bridal gowns as well as a black cocktail dress (paired with patterned tights and bold red lips for the getaway).

I had a blast doing the dramatic cateyes, sculpted face and (for the getaway look) red lips – not something you normally get to do for a bride, so it was a fun departure for me! And doesn’t the Mount look amazing with the fresh snowfall??
