Family photo session with Strong Coffey, Personal Trainer

Personal fitness trainer Kelly Coffey and I have been friends for years, so when she recently came to me asking to get photos taken with her two daughters at her home gym, I jumped at the perfect barter opportunity (one makeup session for one workout!) I loved the photos taken by lifestyle photographer Lynne Graves (and how cute is 2-year-old Cerys with the mini free weights?!?)

Cherry pie themed stock photo shoot with Lynne Graves

(I dare you to look at these photos without getting that Warrant song stuck in your head!)

When lifestyle photographer Lynne Graves told me about her vintage-kitsch stock photo shoot idea featuring bright colors and a yummy cherry pie, I was immediately on board. She found the perfect model, too – professional food and event photographer Lena Teveris who also happens to be a gorgeous redhead and a natural in front of the camera. Lynne baked the perfect cherry pie for the occasion and supplied the vintage cherry-print apron; I brought my makeup kit and a handful of bobby pins to create a loose side chignon, and I painted her nails red, too.

For the vintage-inspired makeup, I let the softer colors in the apron influence my choice for Lena’s lips. So instead of giving her a fire-engine red pout, I opted for a softer coral-red that worked beautifully with her warm complexion (I used a coral pencil by Three Custom Color and a LipSurgence tint by Tarte called “Lust”).

This shoot was so playful and fun, and definitely activated my sweet tooth! (Not that it takes much to activate my sweet tooth.) I can’t wait to see the framed prints posted in Lynne’s studio.

Lisa’s 11/11/11 Rock n’ Roll Wedding

It was beginning to look like the once-in-a-lifetime date, 11/11/11, would go unbooked… until Lisa contacted me in the month before her wedding. Huzzah! I’d hate to miss working on a cool date like that. But I had no idea just how cool it would be until Lisa told me that her wedding falls on “National Heavy Metal Day.” (My inner high school headbanger was so pleased!)

And when Lisa said that she’s a black smoky eye, “Kim Kardashian eye makeup” kinda gal, and I saw her big beautiful eyes in person, I knew there was no way I was going to try to talk this rock n’ roll bride into a softer, traditional bridal look. The dark eyes were perfect on her.

I did makeup for Lisa, retro glam-inspired makeup for her sister, a natural plummy look for her mother, and a little touch for the flower girl (who was DETERMINED to get into my chair and fought hard for the opportunity, desperately trying to edge out everyone else – hilarious!) And according to Lisa’s review, the makeup lasted through “an emotional ceremony, sweaty Greek dancing, all of it.” It was such a pleasure to work with this fabulous family.

(Oh – and the story behind the boxing gloves? Lisa met Keegan at the gym, where he taught cardio kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Lisa has been a huge boxing fan since watching Rocky as a kid, so, as she put it, “It was kind of kismet that we would meet because of boxing!”)
