Shiri’s outdoor bridal extravaganza in the Berkshires
Shiri’s July 2012 wedding was an amazing event to be part of – everything from the venue (a beautiful, tucked-away family home in the Berkshires) to the colors to the flowers… and did I mention the fire dancing? I’m so glad I got to see all the cool stuff that happened after me and my team left for the day!
Yup, this wedding was a team effort… with 12 beautiful ladies on the roster, I brought my makeup BFF Kristen along – she was a machine that day! And the ever-talented Jen joined us as well to do hair. We worked efficiently in a relaxed atmosphere on the porch, which stayed nice and cool despite being filled with family & bridesmaids enjoying their mimosas on a sunny July morning. After bidding the group goodbye, we had a bit of an “adventure” on our drive home (my GPS got confused when we encountered a bridge that was out, and ultimately routed us through miles of unpaved mountain roads – yikes!) but aside from that, everything went smoothly and the results – as you’ll see below – are just breathtaking.
I loved that Shiri knew her face so well – she likes eyeliner, she likes plum tones, and she likes a bit of smokiness – and paired with very clean freckled skin and soft lips, it was the perfect look for her spirited self! I included several close-ups midway through the makeup so you can see the detail of the eyes in particular. As long as it’s flatteringly placed and flawlessly blended, you can incorporate deeper shades into your wedding makeup without looking the least bit overdone! (And as you’ll see below, I did the eye makeup first – this allows me to clean up any fallout from the smoky eye before doing concealer and foundation.)

Monica’s smoky purple bespectacled bridal beauty
Sorry, I just love the word “bespectacled.” And I’m a glasses-wearer, too (nearsighted like whoa), so whenever one of my brides wears her frames down the aisle, I invariably break out the alliteration: “Beautiful bespectacled bride!” Maybe I’m developing a new niche?
Anyway, don’t mind me – check out Monica’s rockin’ look! She told me that dark and smoky was her style, and that she loves the color purple, so I had fun creating a look that suited her. (It looked like smoky eyeliner that coordinated with her hip frames, but every time she blinked you’d also see a flash of color – fun!) Luckily, Monica has big gorgeous eyes that don’t get overwhelmed by dark eye makeup and false lashes, so I knew she could pull it off.
First, my arsenal:
One of Monica’s bridesmaids admiring her new reflection (it was so touching to see her get all emotional!)
Monica posing with one of her bridesmaids (whose makeup I also did):
Can I get an “aww”?
Posing with the groom and one of her friends (who just happens to be an aspiring hairstylist and makeup artist, and who I had a great time talking to during prep! I was very gratified that he was so impressed with my work.)
In this photo, you can see the touch-up kit that I give my brides – it’s the sassy little satin drawstring number in her left hand:
I love pictures of laughing brides:
Showin’ off the goods:
This picture cracked me up too much to leave it out (and yes, these are posted with the bride’s permission!)
More laughing awesomeness:
On the dance floor…
The (smoky) eyes have it:
Cheers! (Love the goblets!)

Katie’s seaside wedding (Rockport, MA)
I can’t believe I haven’t shared this wedding before now! Katie’s wedding took place in May 2011 in Rockport, at the scenic Emerson Inn by the Sea. Katie found me on Offbeat Bride and promptly came out for a trial with both myself and my frequent partner-in-style, Jenursa, giving us an excuse to take the show on the road and stay overnight at an adorable little motor lodge just across the bay. Waking up to the sound of waves was a real pleasure… I love when I get to travel for work (even just across the state) and as a land-locked gal in the Western Hemisphere of Massachusetts, I’ll take any excuse to go breathe some salt air!
Katie has very elegant tastes and wanted her eyes to be the stars of the show – she also wore beautiful flowers in her hair. Her wedding palette of rich royal purples called for slightly smoky, plummy earthtones that complimented the wedding colors without matching them. And I just LOVED what Jen did to her hair!

Denise & Sven’s wedding
It was such a pleasure to work with Denise! She opted for a subtle smoky purple eye, softly defined skin and subtle lips to complement her beautiful outdoor ceremony at Look Park in Florence, MA.

Rebeca’s wedding at the Publick House in Sturbridge MA
I had so much fun doing makeup for Rebeca and her wedding party! She was married on October 2nd at the Publick House in Sturbridge, MA on a day that turned out to be perfectly sunny and mild (oh, how I miss those days now, as I look out the window at darkness and cold rain!), and everyone I worked with – from her maid of honor to her 91-year-old grandmother – were so lovely and fun.
She told me at the trial that her style was natural but that she liked bright shades, especially purple (one of her wedding colors), and to emphasize her eyes. I knew I could bring out her gorgeous brown eyes with that most royal of hues, so I used some iris shades that ended up coordinating beautifully with her bouquet. Unfortunately I didn’t have the sense to snap a close-up myself, but you can can a glimpse of the color (and how beautiful & happy she looked) in the official wedding pics:
Infectious smiles all around! One of the perks of my job is getting a glimpse into people’s happiest life moments, and having a small part in what makes their day so much fun.
