Kayden’s Wedding at the Log Cabin in Holyoke MA
I can’t believe I haven’t told this story yet on my blog! Two years ago, I woke up early in anticipation of a rare summer Saturday off. At 6:45am, my phone rang – and at first I ignored it, because I usually ignore unrecognized numbers. But they left a voicemail: “Good morning! I am looking for a last-minute makeup artist for my daughter’s wedding… today, as soon as possible… 8 people need their makeup done, her makeup person isn’t available, somehow there was a miscommunication, PLEASE return my phone call.”
If I’m honest, my initial reaction wasn’t enthusiastic, because I was looking forward to a rare Saturday off, and I had no idea what kind of situation I’d be walking into (I prefer to get to know my clients beforehand). But I also felt terribly for the bride, and my kit was already clean, packed, and ready to go, so I called the mom back and got the details: the wedding was right here in Holyoke, and if I left my house immediately, there would be JUST enough time to do everyone’s makeup by the noon deadline. I really had no excuse! So I threw my hair into a wet ponytail and hightailed it out the door.
And I’m relieved to report that Kayden and her family were all lovely and appreciative, and it was such a good experience. (And what an amazing stroke of luck that I was even available in the first place!) Here’s what Kayden wrote to me afterwards:
“It was truly a blessing to have you play such a big role in our special day! You really were the hero of the day and I’m glad you felt that way! Thank you again for coming to the rescue, you were amazing and set everyone off on the right foot for what turned out to be the most perfect day ever!!”
And what happened with the original artist? The bride had initially, mistakenly told her the wedding was on the 9th, not the 8th, and it was somehow overlooked in their subsequent correspondence. I would feel so horrible if that happened to me! It’s a good reminder for everyone – brides and vendors alike – to double check all dates, times, and locations. Can’t be too careful!
Here are a few photos from Kayden’s day, as well as the amazing review she left me afterwards:
