Wedding Pro Spotlight: Shannon Grant Photography

 In Interviews, Recommended Vendors

I met Shannon Grant for the first time 11 years ago, when we were both starting our businesses and adding to our portfolios. Countless photoshoots and weddings later, and I thought it was high time to tell you a little bit about this creative powerhouse and human ball of sunshine. (And the timing is especially great, because while I used to have to drive all the way to the South Shore to work with her, she and her husband recently bought a house in Central MA, putting her squarely in my professional orbit!)

Tell us your name, what you do, and where you do it!
Hello, I’m Shannon from Shannon Grant Photography! I’m a wedding and fashion photographer who specializes in capturing radiant images for modern day romantics. Based in Worcester but available throughout all of New England and beyond!

How did you get started as a photographer?
I got my start around 2006 while photographing local aspiring models and rock bands on location. Both styles really resonated with me so it was a natural progression to begin photographing weddings. From editorial style portraits in golden hour lighting to the energy of a packed dance floor; both light me up in different ways and keep me coming back for more!

How would you describe your photography style?
My style is editorial but also warm and engaging. A blend of magazine-worthy and perfectly stylized with authentic and emotional candid moments.

What inspires you?
Flowing fabrics, glowing light, and a couple in love! To stoke the creative fire I look outside the wedding industry; books, movies, music, and travel. Anything that makes me feel alive puts me in the right headspace to create photo magic.

What types of clients do you work best with?
My ideal clients are modern day romantics who savor the good things in life and want to have a blast on their wedding day.

What are some of the most challenging aspects of your job?
Knowing you only get one chance to capture fleeting moments.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
Knowing you only get one chance to capture fleeting moments…and nailing it. These photos will live on after memories fade and knowing you’re giving these moments back to cherish forever is the best feeling.

What tools/equipment can you not live without?
Film! It gives a dreamy, yet tangible feel to images that’s always in style. That natural light glow is a big part of my aesthetic and speaks right to my ideal, romantic clients.

What tips do you have for couples looking to hire a photographer?
So many! Try to choose someone whose work resonates with you and you can see yourself having fun with. If you’re camera shy, make sure they’re comfortable posing you and ask to see examples. Don’t compare based on pricing if you can help it. It’s better to invest in a great photographer’s basic package (you can always purchase albums/prints later) than a budget or less experienced photographer’s full-to-the-brim package.

Tell us a story about one of your favorite jobs.
This is like choosing a favorite child! One that sticks out was an intimate wedding overlooking the ocean with the sweetest couple. He’s a musician and had arranged for some of his buddies to do a surprise serenade from the balcony during their first dance on the lawn. It was truly a magical moment. The bride was in tears (we all were) and the thoughtfulness of that gesture always stuck with me. What can I say… I’m a sucker for the romance!
